Dental Crown & Veneers

A crown, sometimes called a “cap”, is a tooth–like covering placed over a carefully prepared existing tooth. A crown is used to strengthen, restore or improve the appearance of your natural tooth. If the tooth is badly worn, cracked or decayed, a crown will support the tooth when there is no longer sufficient tooth structure left to place a filling. Dental crowns improve your smile by covering a misshapen or severely discolored tooth, they also protect a tooth after a very large filling or root canal treatment to prevent future fracture and tooth loss. Certain circumstances may require a dental crown such as a root canal treated tooth, fractured tooth, large existing decayed restoration or dental implant.

At Sunrise Dental of Kent we use expert local dental labs to fabricate premium, hygienic and biocompatible dental crowns for our patients. With all materials and manufacturing here in USA and locally in Washington State.

Dental crowns fall into three categories: full metal (may be recommended for back teeth where the forces of biting and chewing are the greatest, a metal crown rarely chips or breaks, gold or other high-noble metal crown offers biocompatibility), porcelain fused to metal (metallic surfaces under a ceramic layer that resembles natural teeth, it offers the benefits that are esthetically pleasing and the strength of a metal substructure) and full porcelain (most natural and virtually indistinguishable from teeth attractive, strong, stable, and highly resistant to wear, offers a high level of biocompatibility because it does not contain metal). Your dentist will assess your dental health and discuss what crown is suitable for your dental care needs.

A veneer improves the appearance of a tooth by covering the visible front surface with a custom-made, tooth-colored porcelain overlay. Veneers are often described as a “contact lens that covers the tooth”. They are thin shells of porcelain that are custom made to fit over teeth, they are used to re-create the natural look of teeth. A veneer may be recommended when a tooth is discolored or stained, worn down, fractured/chipped or broken, misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped. Veneers created a durable and pleasing smile in a short period of time.
